You’ve Got Some Big Decisions To Make As A New Parent.

Finding out that you’re pregnant and about to become a parent should be a joyous occasion. But then you realize that there are a lot of decisions to make, and you certainly don’t want to make any mistakes. Of course, most of these decisions can’t be considered mistakes at all. They are just choices with no right or wrong answer, but they could still affect your child’s life. So, what type of issues are we talking about here?

Gender Neutral Parenting

There’s been a lot of buzz lately about this idea. Gender neutral parenting is exactly as it sounds. You don’t define your baby by their gender. It’s quite a PC idea that suggests we shouldn’t automatically assume boys like things associated with boys. Conversely, we also shouldn’t instantly go out and buy lots of flowery pink items for girls. You get the concept? The benefits of this type of parenting are that you don’t define who your baby becomes. They can choose their own path without you pushing them in one direction or another. For many parents, this might be the best possibility. However, others would prefer their kids to fit the social molds. This is entirely your choice. You should also realize that if a kid wants to veer in a different direction when they grow up, they will. You can’t stop your girl becoming a tomboy by buying them a Barbie.

Breast Feeding

It’s hard to feel good about breastfeeding when social media constantly shouts you shouldn’t do it in public. If your baby needs to be fed, you can’t always wait until you are somewhere private. This is something you will have to come to terms with if you choose to breastfeed. Not everyone is going to be accepting, and some people deem it to be behavior that should not be allowed in public society. This isn’t an exaggeration and if you don’t believe me, just read some of the stories online.

On the other hand, if you do decide to breastfeed, there are many advantages. Plenty of pediatricians has spoken about the benefits for the baby and the mother.

Discipline And Bad Behaviour

You’ll be surprised how quickly young children learn and develop bad behavior. You’ll have to decide straight away how you will deal with your child’s bad behavior. Otherwise, they will start to grow out of control. Obviously, physical forms of punishment such as smacking are no longer socially acceptable. As such, you should look for other ways to keep your child well behaved. The best idea is the naughty step. This is a place in the home where a child will be forced to sit by themselves if they have been naughty. It’s simple and sends a clear message to the child. You may want to come up with your own way to help your child learn right from wrong.

Vaccines

Last but not least, you need to think about vaccines. There are still parents today that don’t want to vaccinate their children against diseases such as measles. If you feel this way,  you should know that the research suggesting autism is related to been discredited. If this is your reason for disregarding the idea of vaccinations you may want to reconsider your point of view.

You’ll have a lot more decisions to make as a new parent. These are just some of the issues you will need to consider.
