Vacations are one of the best ways to get away from the stress and worry of everyday life for a while, have some fun and make some lasting happy memories with your family. However, if money is tight for you, then going on vacation may not be something that’s at the top of your priority list. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be impossible to have the vacation of a lifetime on a tight budget. With the right amount of planning and making smart choices, you can plan the perfect, unforgettable vacation for your family without breaking the bank. We’ve put together some top tips to help you plan a budget vacation that the whole family will love.

Tip #1. Staycation:

When most people think about going on vacation, they envisage traveling abroad. However, you don’t have to go out of the country to have a wonderful time on vacation, with so many great options available right at home in the U.S. Traveling to a neighboring state, or even visiting other towns and cities in your own state can be just as rewarding, whilst cutting your travel costs down significantly. Staying in the U.S. means that you can take the train or even plan a road trip, which usually costs much less than flights abroad. Check out the Pelican Lake Resorts for the perfect staycation option in Minnesota.

Tip #2. Travel Off-Season:

Although it’s usually easier to book your vacations over the summer break, this can also work out the most expensive as it’s when most hotels, resorts, and attractions are in the highest demand. Traveling during peak season usually means that you’ll have to pay a premium, and can leave you with a significant dent in your bank account. For example, destinations such as Florida or Hawaii are at their peak during the summer break, whilst those hoping for a Christmas/New Year break can expect prices to be hiked up in the Caribbean. Instead, opt for alternative destinations that are in their low season but still relatively warm, such as South Carolina, Los Angeles, or New Orleans.

Tip #3. Rent an Apartment or Villa:

If you’re planning to stay on vacation for a while, opting for an apartment, villa, or cabin over a standard hotel room might seem more expensive to begin with. However, it usually works out to be more cost-effective – not to mention that having all the comforts of home available, along with more space, makes for a more comfortable and stress-free stay. This is also the perfect option if you’re traveling with a large group of people, as you can all stay together instead of being in separate hotel rooms. When you have your own villa or apartment, you’ll be able to make significant savings on things such as eating out. Instead of visiting restaurants daily or paying steep hotel breakfast charges, you can take a trip to the local grocery store and stock up on items to prepare your own food at home.
