Many people believe that if something were to go wrong with their heart, they would immediately be aware of it. However, not all of the early symptoms of heart disease or failure are the dramatic, chest-clutching type that you’ve probably seen in the movies. In fact, the symptoms of heart disease or heart failure can be a lot subtler, and once they’re bad enough for you to notice, you may be in real trouble. Chest Discomfort

Feelings of discomfort or mild pain in the chest is one of the most common symptoms that your heart is in danger. Patients with a blocked artery, or those suffering from a heart attack, often feel an ache in their chest which causes feelings of pain, tightness, or pressure. Remember, this pain doesn’t have to be particularly debilitating or dramatic – people have even had heart attacks in the past without even realizing until later on. Because of this, if you’re experiencing any form of pain or discomfort in your chest, you should seek medical help. Learn more about the symptoms of heart failure here.

Nausea and Indigestion

Suffering from nausea and indigestion could just be because of something that you ate, but it can also be a sign that there’s something wrong with your heart. During a heart attack, some people may experience these symptoms, so much so that they may even vomit. Statistically, women are more likely to experience these symptoms in relation to an issue with their heart than men are. Of course, nausea and indigestion on their own can be caused by a range of other things, however, if you’re suffering from this and aren’t sure why, the best thing to do is get checked over by a doctor.

Dizziness

Feeling dizzy or lightheaded can be caused by a number of different things, but this can also be one of the early symptoms of a heart problem. If you suddenly feel unsteady or dizzy for no reason, and have had enough to eat and drink and are not suffering from a lack of sleep, it’s important to see a doctor straight away. This is especially important if you experience any chest discomfort or difficulty breathing at the same time.

Exhaustion

If you are finding that you get exhausted much more easily these days even though you have made little changes to your diet or exercise routine, it’s important to arrange to see your doctor as soon as possible. Suddenly feeling winded or fatigued when doing things that you’ve had no problem doing before, such as climbing the stairs or carrying bags of groceries, could be an important sign that something isn’t quite right when it comes to your heart health. Of course, it could be caused by something else, but it’s always best to get checked over by a doctor to be safe.

Heart attack and failure symptoms can often be subtler than we realize. If you have or are currently experiencing any of these symptoms, seeing a doctor is essential.

  • A large number of people lost their lives every year due to heart failure, so everyone should keep an eye on the symptoms. It is better to go to a doctor for the overall body checkup after every few months in order to remain fit because early diagnosis gives a chance of treatment before it’s too late. There are also some other symptoms and I know it as I help the medical students when they ask me to write something.
